Role Purpose
Startup Lions Assets Kenya Limited (SLAK) is seeking a proactive, organized and technology-oriented Human Resource Assistant to join our team and support the effective delivery of day-to-day HR operations.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on support in HR administration, employee records management, payroll processes, reporting, recruitment coordination, and other people-related activities. We are particularly interested in a tech-savvy HR professional who can effectively use digital tools and systems to improve HR processes and maintain accurate employee information.

Job Description
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, both digital and physical.
- Supporting recruitment and onboarding processes, including vacancy administration, interview coordination, documentation, and employee induction.
- Supporting preparation and processing of monthly payroll and ensuring employee information and payroll inputs are accurate and complete.
- Assisting with leave, attendance, staff movements, contracts, and other routine employee records.
- Supporting the administration of HR policies, procedures, and employee welfare initiatives.
- Preparing HR reports, staff lists, schedules, and other HR-related documentation.
- Supporting statutory HR administration and maintaining relevant employee records.
- Assisting with performance management, staff engagement, training, and other HR activities.
- Responding to routine employee HR queries and escalating complex matters to the appropriate HR lead.
- Supporting the effective use of HR Information Systems and other digital HR tools.
- Identifying opportunities to improve HR workflows, record management, reporting, and administrative efficiency through technology.
- Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring responsible handling of employee information.
- Performing other HR duties as assigned by the HR Lead.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in Human Resources, preferably within an NGO, non-profit, or donor-funded organization.
- A Higher Diploma in HRM and CHRP( part- two) will be an added advantage.
- Must be a registered member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM)
- Experience working in a multicultural and inclusive workforce.
- Good understanding of the Kenyan Labour Laws.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
Core competencies & Experience
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience managing digital employee records and HR documentation.
- Familiarity with HR Information Systems (HRIS) and other digital HR platforms.
- Ability to use digital tools to support payroll, HR reporting, data management, and employee records administration.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and technology-enabled HR processes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate HR data.
- Reliable and able to follow through on assigned tasks.
- Able to work independently while supporting the wider HR team.
- Professional and able to maintain confidentiality.
- A good communicator with strong interpersonal skills
